The mystery of Georges Léon Rispal

Little is known about the creator of Rispal.

The son of wine merchants, he was born in Paris in 1901. It was in 1924 that he founded his lighting company in the 11th arrondissement of the capital, at 172 rue de Charonne. Its activity ceased in 1982.

The factories and the exhibition store were then destroyed to make way for a real estate program. During this operation, all the plans, manufacturing documents and other tools disappear.

In short, the know-how of the Rispal company.

From classicism to avant-garde

Rispal productions were extremely varied and rather classical in style.

However, at the beginning of the 1950s, a particularly avant-garde catalog appeared. Its name: “New Forms”. There are models largely inspired by Scandinavian design but also, it is said, by the artist Jean Arp.
