Each Rispal Paris creation is born in our French workshops, handcrafted by artisans trained in the techniques of working with wood, metal, and weaving—the same expertise that has defined the house since the 1950s. Once completed, each piece is assigned an edition number and accompanied by a Rispal Certificate of Authenticity attesting to its origin, materials, and date of manufacture.

Designed in 1950 by François Rispal, the Mante Religieuse embodies Rispal’s creative boldness. A true manifesto of post-war French design, it remains one of the most recognizable silhouettes in 20th-century lighting.

The Praying Mantis lampshade is made of pleated cellulose acetate. This renewable material is made from cotton fibers and does not use petroleum in its production. The technique used to shape this lampshade is a unique process developed by Rispal in the 1950s, the secret of which is still closely guarded.

The Praying Mantis has not always borne this name. Originally, Rispal designated his luminaires only by numbers; it was the antiquarians and decorators who, over time, recognized in its taut lines the insect for which it takes its name.

Available in chrome-plated or polished brass, the monogrammed screw covers complement various wood species. The fabric cord, integrated into the central groove, is available in several colors.

More than seventy-five years after its design, its silhouette remains instantly recognizable. Only the craftsmanship had to be reinvented, piece by piece, so that it could once again be made in France.
